App agents: let an agent use an app on your computer
Create an app agent in Nebula desktop to drive one app on your computer, like Figma, Notes or Excel. Connect the app, hand it work and disconnect it.
An app agent uses one app on your computer for you, such as Figma, Notes or Excel. It reads what's in that app's window, clicks, types and uses the app's menus, and it works in that app and nowhere else: no other apps, files or terminal.
It's a different kind of access from computer use, which lets agents run commands and work with files on your computer. An app agent never gets a shell. It only gets the one app you connect.
Create an app agent
You create app agents in the desktop app, on the computer where the app runs.
Start a new agent
Click the + at the top of the Agents box, choose Create a new agent, and under Or set one up yourself pick Apps.
Turn on this computer
Computer: turn this computer on for the workspace if it isn't already. The first time, Nebula asks for the folder agents work in.
Pick the app
App: open the app you want, then pick it from Open on this computer. Use Find an app to narrow a long list.
Review and create
Review: check what the agent may do, allow any permissions the computer still needs, such as Accessibility, and click Create agent.
What it can do
| It can | It can't |
|---|---|
| Read what's in the app's window | Use any other app |
| Click, scroll and drag in it | Read or change your files |
| Type and press keys in it | Run commands in a terminal |
| Use the app's menus | Move to another computer |
Nebula asks before the agent acts for you, and a frame shows around the app while it works. If the app needs you to sign in, the agent asks you to do that in the app yourself, then looks again and carries on. Don't send it passwords or one-time codes in the chat.
Give it work
The agent is private to you and lands in your Nebula DM. Message it there to hand it work, the same way you'd message any agent.
Because it runs on your own computer, it can't join a channel others can read, and you can't share it with the workspace. Like other work on your computer, a turn nobody typed, such as a scheduled job, asks before it runs (see Devices).
Disconnect an app
The connection lasts until you take it back. Click Stop on the frame around the app, or open Settings → Preferences → Computer use, find the app under Connected apps and click Disconnect.
An app agent stays tied to the computer you made it on. To drive the same app on another computer, create another app agent there.
